Title Description
Pests not Known to Occur in North America Various sources have identified a number of organisms that may be problematic if they were to be introduced into North America. This list seeks to illustrate those organisms to provide identifiers with the images they need to verify an identification and create resources for educatiing others if the pest were to be introduced.
Cooperative Agricultural Pest Survey The Cooperative Agricultural Pest Survey performs annual surveys for a wide variety of pests that may affect agriculture in the United States. By providing images to illustrate these pests and diseases, we seek to enable state and federal partners to have a readily available source of images to be used in educational and public relation materials.
WSSA WeedList The Weed Science Society of America has partnered with the Bugwood Image Database in the hopes of illustrating every weed on the WSSA Weed List. Althought this is currently an unfunded project, we are pursuing grant opportunities along these lines and are seeking cooperation from additional partners.
Urban Forest Inventory Pest Early Detection The USDA Forest Service has been working with a wide array of stakeholders to build an expansion of the iTree street inventory program that would be able to alert users to new pest or disease introductions in the urban forest based on the signs and symptoms of the trees. We have been recruiting images to illustrate some of the known pests.
Southern Plant Diagnostic Network The Southern Plant Diagnostic Network created a list of organisms that are either known to be a problem on crops in the south or could be a problem if they were introduced. Images supporting this list are used by diagnosticians, extension agents, crop consultants and other people involved in scouting and managing pest and disease problems.
Northern Plains IPM Guide The Northern Plains IPM Guide is intended to provide current effective management options for insect and other arthropod pests and for plant pathogens affecting all major field crops grown in North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Iowa and Kansas. The organisms featured in this recruiting effort are mentioned in the guide.
Onion PIPE The Onion ipmPIPE Network will focus on onion thrips and Iris yellow spot virus, with general support extended to disease and pest diagnostics and IPM strategies for other priority problems of onion and other allium crops. The goal is to develop, improve and enhance diagnostic tools and resources for priority fungal, bacterial, viral and nematode pathogens of onion.
Invasive Species Most Unwanted Certain invasive species currently have no images available in our database despite the potential impact that they may have in the United States. If you have images of any of these species, please post them so that we can better illustrate these threats.
This American Land This American Land is an environmental news weekly series that is focused on educating the public about America’s natural heritage – its landscapes, waters, and wildlife – and the people and organizations that are working to protect it for future generations. It is a new and distinctive solutions-focused program that will begin airing in the fall on PBS.
Texas Exotics Training Many organizations in Texas are trying to keep new exotic species from coming in to the state and the country. This recruiting project focuses on a few of the subjects that people should be on the lookout for.
Millet Damage Agents Millet is a minor grain in the United States but is widely grown around the world. This recruitment effort seeks to illustrate many of the damage agents that can be found in the various millets.
Sorghum Damage Agents Grain sorghum is the third most important cereal crop grown in the United States and the fifth most important cereal crop grown in the world. The United States is the world's largest producer of grain sorghum followed by India and Nigeria. It is a leading cereal grain produced in Africa and is an important food source in India. Leading exporters are the United States, Australia and Argentina. This recruiting project seeks to illustrate many of the damage agents that affects this commodity.
EDDMapS Representative Photos Representative pictures of plants and animals are needed to display on the EDDMapS Reporting Page and in an iPhone app that is in development.
iMapInvasives Project iMapInvasives is an online, GIS-based, all-taxa mapping tool that aggregates and displays invasive species location data from multiple sources. It provides versatile mapping resources for monitoring and management projects, from a local to state-wide level. Data is received from partners across the state or province through batch uploads and quality-controlled online submissions.
Urban Pests and Pest Management There are many pests that are commonly found inthe urban environment. This project will help recruit images for the more common ones that are currently found and some others that may be introduced in the future.
Important Lepidoptera Many different butterflies and moths can cause damage to economically important commodities. Here is a short listing of Lepidoptera that we are currently looking for images of.
Legume PIPE The Legume ipmPIPE Network will focus on priority diseases and insect pests, with general support extended to disease and pest diagnostics and IPM strategies for non-soybean pulse crops including common bean, cool-season legumes and warm-season legumes. The goal is to develop, improve and enhance diagnostic tools and resources for priority fungal, bacterial, viral and nematode pathogens of pulses.
Crown Aquatic Invasive Species Field Guide The Crown Managers Partnership (CMP) is creating a general educational pocket guide for the public that addresses Aquatic Invasive Species of concern in the Crown of the Continent region. Here is the CMP's website if you would like to visit it to find out more about what they do. The end product will be printed a pocket guide and electronic versions will likely be made available on U.S. and Canadian government websites.

Pest Tracker Pest Tracker publishes survey maps for pests of agricultural and forest commodities and provides links to pest news and information. Much of this information is provided by the National Agricultural Pest Information System (NAPIS) which stores and manages pest survey data that is collected by CAPS and other PPQ survey programs. Both of these systems are operated by The Center for Environmental and Regulatory Information Systems (CERIS) within the Entomology Department at Purdue University. Images used in this project will help illustrate the insects, diseases, and weeds affecting agriculture and forestry that are featured on http://pest.ceris.purdue.edu/index.php
