Origin Ctenosaura pectinata is native to Mexico and Central America. Mexican spiny-tailed iguana were likely introduced to the United States as escaped or intentionally released pets. Life Cycle Mexican spiny-tailed iguana are large lizards in size with male bodies up to 18 in. (46 cm) in length with the tail another 18 in. (46 cm). Sexually dimorphic, males possess a well-developed dorsal crest and small dewlaps with females lacking these features. Juveniles are olive-green in color which transform into a greyish color as they age to adults. C. pectinata are extremely territorial and sociable living in large colonies with a strict pecking order. Lizards are typically herbivorous in diet, but they will consume small mammals, insects, and eggs. Distribution C. pectinata populations are found in Florida and Texas.
